01.05.2026 – The Union of Cypriots announces that its members, Panayiotis Taliotis and Oz Karahan, will be candidates for Nicosia in the parliamentary elections of 24 May 2026, as part of our joint struggle with the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation (Green Party of Cyprus).
At a time when corruption in Cyprus has reached critical levels, the economy is faltering and citizens are unable to make ends meet, the Turkish occupation continues, becoming ever more threatening, while the presence of foreign bases creates a constant threat. Under these conditions, our people are in need of honest, determined and authentic pancyprian political representation.

Today, the political reality in Cyprus is clear. The parliamentary parties that dominate public life, with the exception of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, are either forces that have governed the country and contributed to bringing Cyprus to this state, or forces that, whether openly or indirectly, support the current government. At the same time, newly formed political parties present themselves as forces against corruption, yet refuse to name and confront the system that produces it at its root. This system is the post-colonial structure of governance on the island, shaped by colonial powers, in which the legislative, judicial, and executive branches were never truly and distinctly separated, and in which the necessary checks and balances between them do not exist. This structure, reinforced by Turkey’s military occupation, sustains the entire order. On this fundamental issue, both the established parties and the self-proclaimed “anti-systemic” new parties remain silent. Even worse, some of these “anti-systemic” parties claim to stand against corruption while already including compromised individuals within their ranks.
In the political life of Cyprus, the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation stands out as the only force with 30 years of political presence both in parliament and on the streets, with a consistent historical struggle against this interconnected political, economic and legal establishment. It has consistently opposed the corrupt establishment, defended social justice, and undertaken concrete political action both against the Turkish occupation and against the British bases.
The candidacies of Panayiotis Taliotis and Oz Karahan in Nicosia give expression to this same struggle: for the liberation of Cyprus from the Turkish occupation and for the full decolonisation of Cyprus. For the independence and territorial integrity of our homeland, for people’s sovereignty, for a dignified life for working young people and all Cypriots, for a future free from foreign troops and foreign bases, and for a state governed by the rule of law, free from a corrupt political elite.
For these reasons, we call on all supporters of the Union of Cypriots to stand behind this common struggle and to strengthen it with their vote, their voice and their participation. This candidacy is not only an electoral choice, but also a revolutionary act for the democratic unity of Cypriots against apartheid-type solutions imposed on our people by foreign powers, and for a free, unitary and decolonised Cyprus.
We fight for One Cyprus, for Equality and Justice.
