10.11.2025 – The International League of Peoples Struggle – Europe (ILPS Europe) successfully concluded its three day Assembly in Nicosia, held from 8 to 10 November 2025 and hosted by the country committee members in Cyprus, Union of Cypriots and the Cyprus Democratic Lawyers Association (CDLA). Delegates, observers and organisations from across Europe and beyond participated in the gathering.

Building on the legacy of ILPS assemblies as spaces where movements gather to share strategy and deepen solidarity, and in the spirit of the words of Palestinian revolutionary Leila Khaled, who stated in 2024 during an ILPS assembly that “freedom fighters are here and we can plan for the future,” this years Assembly carried that tradition forward. Held under the theme “Bases, Militarization and Fascism: The Peoples Fight for Sovereignty, Just Peace and Liberation Against US Hegemonic Expansion in Europe,” the program included a public event, the ILPS Europe Assembly, and a full day of exposure and protest action.

On the ground in Nicosia, one of the world’s last foreign occupied capitals, the delegates and observers saw the ceasefire line, the United Nations demilitarized buffer zone and key sites of resistance against occupation. The delegation then went to the free areas of Famagusta with a view toward the Turkish occupied ghost town of Varosha. Later, they continued by viewing Achna, one of the villages where Cypriots were forcibly displaced due to the Turkish invasion, and by visiting the Agios Dimitrianos Chapel in Dasaki Achnas, a monument that stands for the one third of Cypriots who were forced to leave their ancestral homes and highlights the continued importance of the liberation struggle and the right of return.

Delegates and observers from different countries at the ILPS Europe Assembly also took part in two militant protest actions. A protest action at the Ledra Palace checkpoint was carried out against the ongoing Turkish occupation since 1974. A subsequent action targeted the Dhekelia British military bases, taking place against yet another site where Cyprus independence continues to be subjugated by foreign military power and where the genocide in Palestine is actively enabled.

The Assembly closed with the historic Cyprus Declaration, asserting that the liberation struggles of Cyprus, Palestine and all oppressed nations are bound together as fronts of one global fight. Delegates vowed to strengthen solidarity, escalate resistance and build a unified movement capable of challenging the structures of occupation and empire. The spirit forged in Cyprus will continue to guide the peoples’ struggle for freedom, justice and return.
