Union of Cypriots stands by “Afrika” newspaper

Afrika newspaper lawsuit

15.05.2019 – As the Union of Cypriots, we would like to inform all Cypriots and express our support for the final hearing of the Afrika newspaper, which will take place on May 16th.

The editor-in-chief of Afrika newspaper, Şener Levent, and his colleague Ali Osman Tabak, face a potential five-year prison sentence in the occupied territories imposed by the illegal authorities. The Union of Cypriots is an organization that fights against the Turkish occupation and the colonial activities of Turkey in the occupied territories. Due to this, we announce our solidarity with these two brave Cypriots who are fighting against the same enemy.

We are not only united in this trial, but also in the broader fight. The president of the Union of Cypriots, Oz Karahan, is on the ballot for Şener Levent’s Jasmine Movement in the upcoming European elections to be held on May 26th in our country. Together, we are fighting on multiple fronts for an independent Cyprus, aiming to end this occupation both in the occupied territories, specifically in the zone of fire, against Turkish oppression, and in the political arena against those who support the status quo and have been exploiting the situation for the past 45 years on both sides. This fight will continue, and we are confident that the Cypriot people are with us.

Finally, we would like to remind the public that the defense of Afrika newspaper is the greatest duty of all Cypriots who seek independence and a future for our homeland, Cyprus. Once again, we are witnessing a historic day following the attacks on Afrika newspaper on January 22nd, 2018, by illegal Turkish settlers, and we must unite once more to defend our land and our people.

Respectfully announced to the public.
Union of Cypriots
