10.11.2025 – The International League of Peoples Struggle – Europe (ILPS Europe) successfully concluded its three day Assembly in Nicosia, held from 8 to 10 November 2025 and hosted by the country committee members in Cyprus, Union of Cypriots and the Cyprus Democratic Lawyers Association (CDLA). Delegates, observers and organisations from across Europe and beyond participated in the gathering.

10.10.2025 – October is a month of action for the independence and sovereignty of Cyprus and the Cypriot people, both on the island and across the world in the spirit of international solidarity. 1 October marks Cyprus’s Independence Day from British colonialism, and 10 October is recognised as the International Day of Solidarity with the Cypriot People, when anti-imperialists around the world unite their voices and actions for Cyprus.

26.02.2025 – The Union of Cypriots took part in the launch of CODEPINK’s new international campaign UK-US Bases Off Cyprus, amplifying the Cypriot voice in the struggle against Britain’s colonial military presence on the island. Speaking on behalf of the Union of Cypriots, Oz Karahan delivered a powerful address situating the British bases within the broader architecture of imperialism, linking them to the NATO-backed Turkish occupation, Zionist settler-colonialism, and decades of divide-and-rule strategies. He stressed that liberating Cyprus is not only essential for Cypriots, but also a decisive step toward weakening imperialism across West Asia and North Africa, and reaffirmed solidarity with the Palestinian struggle. Among the other speakers were Jeremy Corbyn (Peace and Justice Project, Independent MP) and Matt Kennard (investigative journalist who reported on the role of RAF bases in Cyprus in facilitating the U.S.-Israeli genocide in Gaza).

For five decades, the occupation has been oppressing Turkish-speaking Cypriots and continues to deny Greek-speaking Cypriots their right to return to their homes.

20.07.2024 – 20 July 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the NATO-planned Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.

For half a century, imperialist occupation and settler colonialism have persisted on the island, with ongoing colonial policies oppressing Turkish-speaking Cypriots and preventing Greek-speaking Cypriots, forcibly displaced during the Turkish invasion, from returning to their homes. Imperialists use these policies to enforce ethnically-based segregation among the Cypriot people through plans like the “bi-zonal bi-communal federation” and the “two-state” arrangement, in order to keep their presence on the island.

11.07.2024 – The Union of Cypriots participated in the 7th International Assembly of the largest global formation of anti-imperialist organizations, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), on June 21-24, 2024, in Penang, Malaysia. The assembly hosted 535 participants, consisting of 432 delegates from 192 ILPS member organizations and 103 observers.

25.05.2024 – As Union of Cypriots, we organized the event “Cypriot Republicans: The Struggle for Unitary State and Constitutional Citizenship” and presented the Honorary Award we give annually in memory of the Cypriot leader Ihsan Ali. This year, our Honorary Award was given to Ibrahim Aziz, who inspired us with his struggle. In 2022, we did not have the opportunity to present the award to the representatives of the Project “Season of Women”, which adapted the struggle of the “Women Walk Home” into a theater play. At this event, we finally had the chance to present the award to Magdalena Zira and Nedie Antoniades, representatives of the Project “Season of Women”.
