Why should Cypriots take action?
In October last year, Oz Karahan, president of the Union of Cypriots, and journalist Giorgos Tattis were violently and unlawfully arrested while unfurling a banner during the Cypriot Independence Day celebrations. The banner read “Republic of Cyprus: The Only Solution” in Greek, Turkish,it and English, along with “Apartheid is Not a Solution.” Since their arrest, their prosecution has been ongoing.
Cypriot people know that the current government of the Republic of Cyprus, which supports the apartheid system of a “bicommunal bizonal federation” originally proposed by occupying Turkey, is responsible for these arrests. However, from the very beginning, the people of Cyprus have stood in solidarity with Oz Karahan and Giorgos Tattis.
On March 12, 2025, Oz Karahan and Giorgos Tattis will appear before the Nicosia District Court to defend a unitary Cyprus, the values of Cypriots who reject apartheid, and the fundamental right to freedom of speech in the country.
For this reason, Cypriots who believe in these values will gather in front of the High Commission of Cyprus to show their solidarity with Oz Karahan and Giorgos Tattis.
